Unable to set new owner on registry key: Access is denied.

I'm using an admin account, but I'm unable to view or delete a registry key. I also cannot view or modify permissions or view or change the current owner. Is there any solution to this?

2024-05-19T15:57:31.9066667+00:00 While this might appear to be a question about the mechanics of granting permissions on registry keys, we forum users need to look at the bigger picture of what the user is trying to do and leverage our experience to help them solve the root problem, and more importantly, try to stop them from getting themselves into a deeper hole by potentially corrupting the OS.
The issue is the key being modified. His image shows low level USB hardware related keys. Users should not be manually updating those values. That's why Microsoft has the permissions locked down.
Users should be using tools like the Device Manager to modify/remove unwanted/orphan devices. That ensures that all registry keys that reference that device are properly updated/removed.
