Can't add new domain for the Developer Portal

Hello everyone,

I recently deployed an instance of APIM in the Basic v2 tier. I am trying to add a custom domain for the developer portal but it doesn't work, I mean first I get a message that the services hostnames were successfully updated, then I see the message on top saying that the service was updated, then a few minutes after that nothing happens and when I go to the custom domains page I can't see the developer portal custom domain I added earlier.

Can you please give me some advice on this? Just so you know, adding a custom domain for Gateway was fine.

It seems you’re encountering an issue with custom domains in the APIM Basic v2 tier. According to a Microsoft Q&A, there are known problems with custom domains in APIM Standard V2, where custom domains configured for the APIM gateway are not displayed in the API documentation of the developer portal 1. The default Microsoft-provided domain is always shown instead. The custom domain for the developer portal has been implemented recently and will be included in the current/next release 1.

Additionally, there might be an issue with the DNS configuration value. Ensure that you are not using invalid characters while setting the DNS configuration on your APIM instance 2. Also, make sure that the custom domain certificates are set to autorenew and inserted as a certificate (not secret) as described in the documentation 3.

If you’ve already set them correctly, APIM should pick up the changes from Azure Key Vault in a few hours and apply it automatically, except for the Developer tier 3. If you continue to face issues, I recommend tracking updates in the API Management releases and checking if there are any new fixes or workarounds provided.

@Bryan Santos Thanks for your patience! It is a known issue that you cannot use the same certificate/thumbprint for different type of custom domain in skuV2. Please try to add a custom domain for devPortal using a different thumbprint
