Microsoft Teams on Linux desktop

Besides the obvious issues with M$ Teams being a horrific rip-off of Skype, outdated (compare to Discord or Slack), slow, buggy, bloated, etc. M$ Teams worked "fine" for the most part, at least to be functional enough to use in a corporate setting. At least up until about a few months ago, a lot of critical features broke when an update was pushed to the M$ Teams desktop client for Linux and made scheduling a meeting impossible. The scheduler UI is completely broken and same goes for pop-out chats among other issues, such as chats not loading and sometimes requiring the client to be restarted completely. Now M$ states to use Teams as a PWA, what the heck is a PWA?

  • What happened to the electron desktop app?
  • Why hasn't someone from QA tested the update before releasing it to the public?
  • Where do I get this PWA?
  • Why is this not simple and straight forward? Does PWA support video sharing and all the current features the desktop app has? As that's what was claimed by Microsoft, hence why the corporate adoption of this horribly written spyware- er... software, was accepted. We need fixes and fast. I've not been able to schedule meetings, this is a serious problem and it's affecting corporate employees and businesses. I'm only interested in hearing from M$ developers who can resolve this issue. What happened to the electron desktop app?

Teams for Linux desktop application has been retried in December, 2022.

Where do I get this PWA?

Please refer to this link to install PWA version (you may need to use Edge or Chrome browser): Microsoft Teams progressive web app now available on Linux

Does PWA support video sharing and all the current features the desktop app has?

Currently PWA does not support all the features like desktop app (if you mean desktop app for Windows).

I'm only interested in hearing from M$ developers who can resolve this issue.

Please consider creating a service request in Microsoft 365 admin center>Support>New service request.
