I have a handful of machines running Windows Server 2012 that are Azure Arc enrolled with a Extended Service Updates license assigned. When I try to attach an existing Maintenance Configuration to any of those machines, I get an error message stating:***Unable to attach maintenance configuration Thursday_2AM_Reboot_Win2012. Error while attaching maintenance configuration to XXXX. Error details: {Message:An error has occurred.}.***I followed all the steps listed here to set up the servers. Prepare to deliver Extended Security Updates for Windows Server 2012.

It seems you’re encountering an issue with attaching a Maintenance Configuration to your Windows Server 2012 R2 machines that are enrolled in Azure Arc with Extended Service Updates (ESU) enabled. Check if you have specified a sufficient number of cores for the ESU License. Physical core-based licenses require a minimum of 16 cores per machine, and virtual core-based licenses require a minimum of 8 cores per VM. Medical Insurance California Verify that the Connected Machine agent is version 1.34 or higher. If it’s lower, you need to update it to this version or higher. Make sure the connected machine is not running on Azure Stack HCI, Azure VMware solution (AVS), or as an Azure virtual machine, as WS2012 ESUs are available for free in these scenarios. Confirm that the Azure Arc-enabled servers are running the Windows Server 2012 or 2012 R2 operating system, as only these are eligible for ESU enrollment.

    Hello Stephan,

Thank you for the reply. Here is my information based on what you wrote.

It seems you’re encountering an issue with attaching a Maintenance Configuration to your Windows Server 2012 R2 machines that are enrolled in Azure Arc with Extended Service Updates (ESU) enabled.

At this time, I only have one VM with ESU enabled and assigned to a Resource Group that has the license.

Check if you have specified a sufficient number of cores for the ESU License.

We have one (1) license set up for the Resource Group the VMs are in and for 24 virtual cores. That should give us enough for three VMs, correct?

Verify that the Connected Machine agent is version 1.34 or higher.

The Connected Machine agent is version 1.40.

Make sure the connected machine is not running on Azure Stack HCI, Azure VMware solution (AVS), or as an Azure virtual machine, as WS2012 ESUs are available for free in these scenarios.

Connected machine is not running on Azure Stack HCI, Azure VMware solution (AVS), or as an Azure virtual machine. The machine is an on-prem VMware.

Confirm that the Azure Arc-enabled servers are running the Windows Server 2012 or 2012 R2 operating system, as only these are eligible for ESU enrollment.

The Azure Arc-enabled servers are running the Windows Server 2012 R2.

I went as far as re-creating the license and removing any agents that could possibly have the ESU enabled. Right now, I only have one VM with ESU enabled.

    Thanks again for the assistance.
