Currently we are using Windows 10 and Version is 22H2(OS Build 19045.4291).

We have a MSI application installed on Windows 10 and When attempting to uninstall an MSI while it is running in the background, the below error message is displayed.

"Error 1001. An exception occurred while uninstalling. This exception will be ignored and the uninstall will continue. However, the application might not be fully uninstalled after the uninstall is complete."

And on clicking the OK button in error dialog, the application is partially uninstalled and application is removed from Control Panel "Programs and Features" but other associated files are not removed.

Then we have closed the background running application and try to uninstall again, the below error message is displayed and we can't completely uninstall or remove the installed MSI.

"This advertised application is unsafe and will not be installed. Contact your administrator to change the package installation user interface option to Basic."

In previous windows versions, when we try to uninstall the MSI while running in background, the the below error message was displayed.

"Error 1001. An exception occurred while uninstalling. This exception will be ignored and the uninstall will continue. However, the application might not be fully uninstalled after the uninstall is complete."

And on clicking the OK button in error dialog, the application was not uninstalled and application was not removed from Control Panel "Programs and Features".

After we closed the background running application and try to uninstall again, the application was uninstalled successfully and we have not faced any issue.

    Hello Test Admin,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

Based on "This advertised application is unsafe and will not be installed. Contact your administrator to change the package installation user interface option to Basic.", if you change the package installation user interface option to Basic, check if you can uninstall it successfully.

This error message usually appears when the package installation user interface option is set to "No UI" or "Reduced UI" in the Group Policy settings.

To resolve this issue, you need to change the package installation user interface option to "Basic" in the Group Policy settings. You can do this by following these steps:

    1. Open the Group Policy Editor by typing "gpedit.msc" in the Run dialog box and pressing Enter.
    2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Installer.
    3. Double-click "Prohibit User from Specifying Installation Options" and select "Disabled".
    4. Double-click "User Interface Level" and select "Basic".
    5. Click "OK" to save the changes.

After making these changes, try installing the application again.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Daisy Zhou
