Intune error 0x87d1fde8 when attempting to disable Copilot with TurnOffWindowsCopilot

Question

As instructed from here, ./User/Vendor/MSFT/Policy/Config/WindowsAI/TurnOffWindowsCopilot provides a 0x87d1fde8 error on provisioning in Intune.

I've also tried using the Settings Catalog option which results in the same error.

Why is this error happening? How can we reliably disable Copilot on Windows 11?

I've done some research on this issue and the error message means that it due to the fact that you are using the wrong OMA-URI, so you can change it to the correct one and try again. Also, the recommended way to disable Copilot on Windows devices is through the Settings Catalog in Intune, and after my testing I was able to apply the policy correctly. You can try GPO to disable Copilot on Windows device.

You can also check the logs in the Event Viewer on the device side to see if there are any relevant error messages. Location: Event Viewer > Application and Service Logs > Microsoft > Windows > DeviceManagement-Enterprise-Diagnostics-Provider > Admin

Please check that your devices are compliant with the WindowsAI CSP and check that you have not assigned the policy to a user group rather than a device group.
