Hi,

I have a issue with Outlook 2019 and Folder. I have defined on the "Inbox" many folders and that folder has Emails.
Sometimes I cannot display the folder, I get the error message:

"Cannot expand the folder. There is not enough free memory to run this program. Quit one or more programs, and the try again."

Any Idea?

Regards

Nick

    Hi @MPEG ,

What's the type of your account? POP, IMAP or Exchange?
What's the version of your Outlook? 32 bit or 64 bit? (File > Office Account > About Outlook). Please make sure you have upgraded your Outlook to the latest version.

I have defined on the "Inbox" many folders and that folder has Emails.

I understand that you are mentioning that you have many subfolders under your Inbox folder, right?

As I know, this error may indeed occur if you have a large number of folders in your profile, either in your mailbox, public folders. And in most cases, you won't have a problem until you exceed approximately 1,000 folders, or a gigabyte of space is used.

So, as a solution of this issue, it is suggested to back up your mailbox items and reduce the amount of the folders in your profile.
If you are using Exchange account and have public folders, you could also try disabling the Download Public Folder Favorites option and restart your Outlook to see if the issue has any difference. (File > Account Settings > Account Settings > Select your Microsoft Exchange account, and then click Change > More Settings > Advanced > click to clear the Download Public Folder Favorites check box.)
Reference link: You receive insufficient memory errors when you expand a mailbox or public folder in Outlook

Besides, as another workaround, we could also try to increase the available memory to display the folder. Please check the registry method mentioned in this article and see if it could help solve your issue.

    Hope these could help.

    Hi @MPEG ,
    Thanks for your reply.

It works in the past with the same folder with outlook 2016, since I installed Outlook 2019, it does not work.

Considering that this issue only occurred after upgrading Outlook version, what else specific operations did you do before this problem occurred?

Troubleshooting from the perspective of Outlook client itself, please try the suggestions below:

    1. I did some search and found some other users who have the similar issue could solve this issue by caching less emails for the past and restarting Outlook, please try it and see if it helps.

    2. Outlook add-ins and registry keys might cause issue like this. So it is suggested to start your Outlook in safe mode (Press Win + R, type “outlook /safe”, press Enter.) and see if the issue continues.
    3. Usually, if your Outlook profile or local cached datafile is corrupted, errors like this may also happen. Please try creating and using a new Outlook profile via Control Panel > Mail > Show profile and see if there is any difference.

By the way, it is also suggested to compare the bit version between your old 2016 version and the new 2019 version. As I know, the 64-bit version of Outlook has better compatibility than the 32-bit version of Outlook and has a better performance in memory issue. If possible, it is suggested to completely uninstall your Outlook and re-install the 64-bit version of Outlook to see if the problem can be resolved.
