Windows 10 Domain Machines @ Home - Daylight saving failed 25-10-2020 - All Windows 10 Users Not connected to the Internal network

Hi,

Due to covid we have a very large number of users working from home and they connect to the Internal network via a VPN, when required. So they do not check-in with the Domain Controllers very often to sync their time, that is fine we have no problem with that. Their automatic Daylight saving setting is On.

The Daylight saving automatic change did Not work for anyone off of the Internal network this weekend 25-10-2020 GMT UK time.

Problem seen on Windows 10 Pro Feature Releases - 1809, 1909, 2004 etc...

They cannot connect to our VPN servers as the time offset is too much! So catch 22, they cannot sync their time.

Standard users cannot change the Time settings without Local Admin access so our helpdesk has been ringing off the hook.

Once reconnected to the Internal network Time sync updates the machine.

We have checked the local settings and they look correct, see below.

Any Ideas?

Registry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation]
"Bias"=dword:00000000
"DaylightBias"=dword:ffffffc4
"DaylightName"="@tzres.dll,-261"
"DaylightStart"=hex:00,00,03,00,05,00,01,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
"StandardBias"=dword:00000000
"StandardName"="@tzres.dll,-262"
"StandardStart"=hex:00,00,0a,00,05,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
"TimeZoneKeyName"="GMT Standard Time"
"DynamicDaylightTimeDisabled"=dword:00000000
"ActiveTimeBias"=dword:00000000

Thanks Lee.

    If you are using LAPS, generate the password, ask the standard user to login into the local admin account using
    ".\username" and "password".
    Since it is a local admin account, the technique should work and you should be able to modify the time or connect to the vpn.
    Once they are able to connect or change the time, expire the password using LAPS.

    Hi sakshamarora310,

    Thanks for the Information. We are managing to get each user fixed one by one at the moment. We do not use LAPS.

    For us, the longer term get around for this BUG is to push out via LANDesk - Alternative Internet NTP time servers when DC's are not available.

    I wanted to flag this Windows 10 bug to Microsoft which needs fixing.

    Many thanks
    Lee.

    Hi Hannah,

    Thanks for the help. I have checked through your link but "UTC +00:00" GMT UK doesn't seem to need a KB fix.

    Many thanks
    Lee.

    We're seeing exactly the same problem in our organization too.
