Confused about Windows 10 release ID

According to you, effective 2020 Oct 20, release ID will be year + first or second half of year (YYH1 or YYH2). I just updated and noticed my release ID is 2009 and not 20H2. Since the new naming standard affects both desktop and server, what happens to server release ID of 2019? Will it revert to 2009 also instead of 20H2?

    @Kenneth Ives
    Hi,

Windows Server 2019 (Long-Term Servicing Channel) is different with Windows Server, version 20H2 (Semi-Annual Channel)
1809 was the final major Version number of Windows Server 2019.

You could refer to the following image:

Windows 10 October 2020 Update, also known as the Windows 10 Version 2009, 20H2

Hope above information can help you.

Server 2019 is not release Id, that's the year

    Server 2019 (LTSC) = release Id 1809
    Server, version 1809 = release Id 1809
    Server, version 1903 = release Id 1903
    .
    .

yes, 2009 is the internal release Id for v20H2,
but that will probably change in v21H1 and release Id will match display Id

    ReleaseId still shows 2009 for 21H1 and 21H2, also 2009 with Windows 11 22000.194 or Dev 22458.1000.
Did they forget to update the ReleaseId ?

Previously Microsoft was listing the information your looking for in the registry under "ReleaseID", now it is "DisplayVersion"
    Old Way
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ReleaseID

    New Way
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DisplayVersion
