authenticator failure: Error communicating with server. Error code: PP_E_SA_INVALID_STATE_TRANSITION

I've been using the microsoft authenticator for a while. Recently, I started having trouble. When I try to approve the sign it, I get the error listen in the title. Any suggestions? I'm using a google pixel 4. I'm trying to access the personal vault on the windows PC.

    I get "Error communicating with server" when connected to VPN, if I pause the VPN connection there is no issue except for sacrificing the VPN during the login.
