Big Sur + M1 = No editing allowed?

I have a university (A1+) license to access Microsoft 365 and have previously been working on a 2014 Macbook Pro. Just upgraded to the 2020 M1 Air (running on Big Sur) and have been trying to get back into using Word.

Every time I go to edit/create a document I get "Your account doesn't allow editing on a Mac. To learn more, contact your admin about your Office plan," which I have done. (In the process of working with my uni's IT but they seem stumped.) The error code that also pops up is 0x0.

I've fully uninstalled and reinstalled 365 (specifically Word) several times and nothing seems to be fixing my issue. Any advice? Is Big Sur not supported yet? Am I doomed to not have Word for now? Really need it asap.
