"No DNS name is configured" when using Azure endpoint

Hi I have an AppGateway with a public IP address that is load balancing IIS servers. When I try to setup a zone manager endpoint I get the validation message "No DNS name is configured" when selecting my App Gateway. I see the same message if I also select a public IP of the servers directly.

If I configure the endpoint as external with the same IP address everything works fine.

I configured the monitor URL in both the AppGateway and my backend servers.

The tutorial here - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/traffic-manager/traffic-manager-load-balancing-azure - uses AzureEndpoint as endpoint type for configuring app gateways' public ip as endpoints. Which one to go with? I have not had luck with either of this approach.

Go to public IP and in configuration section, add a dns name.
