Hello!

I saw in this webinar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO0sGRH95Sg&list=PLdHjJccRYryNHt53xdAYJKQG5L7q6BiNy&index=2that OneNote 2016 will be updated with "Modern Sync".

But I couldn't find any info about what is the feature?

Is there any specification covering this feature?
What's the difference between this feature and current mechanism with *.one files?

Thanks!

There seems to be no official Microsoft blog or KB to provide more information about "OneNote 2016 Modern Sync" currently.

But I searched some 3 related following threads, you may have a look. (Please Note: Since the web sites are not hosted by Microsoft, the links may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.)

Please refer to the following screenshot from MikeTholfsen's replies on thread "How is Synchronization still so broken?". Maybe the related articles would come soon.

About the differences of mechanism between the previous sync mechanism and Modern Sync, on the thread "How does onenote syncing work?", nickandre15 gave some description of "Legacy sync", please have a look.
You may also refer to OneNoteGrant's reply on this thread "Desperate Letter to OneNote Team - How could you let "The Gem of Microsoft" Get to this point?", to get more informaton of "Legacy sync".

The Modern sync seems to be used to resolve the issues of "Legacy sync", and the OneNote for Windows 10 and OneNote 2016 would be both alive, they would not be planed to merged currently.

Hope the information could hep you.
