Hi,

I am looking for documentation regarding onedrive limits and boundaries for an on premise environment
Finding documentation for Onedrive online is not a problem but I find it harder for a Sharepoint 2019 on premise environment.

For example, this page says the file limit for onedrive is 100GB. I am pretty sure this applies for onedrive online but for on premise I have seen numbers like 10 and 15GB file limit sizes. Can anyone confirm this? This article applies to "SharePoint in Microsoft 365 Office for business SharePoint Server 2016 SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise OneDrive (work or school) OneDrive (home or personal) OneDrive (work or school) operated by 21Vianet OneDrive for Mac OneDrive for Windows SharePoint in Microsoft 365 Small Business SharePoint operated by 21Vianet"

Since it is an on premise environment we have to deal with a content database on a SQL server thats why I am curious about any documentation on limits and boundaries. Is this correct: We create a separate web application for the my site host with an associated content database. All the users my sites will be stored as an individual site collection in this content database and this is where their "onedrive" files will be saved. Thus, the total amount of data that users can save in their onedrive on premise is found here?

Which means no more than 4TB of total data?
No more than 60 million of total items?

Since my workplace with over 1000 users are asking if they can use Onedrive as their typical "home folder", what if we hit these hard limits from the article above? Is there a way to split the my site web app into multiple content databases to able to keep meeting the user requirements?
Is this a recommended usage of onedrive on premise? Over a 1000 userss home folder with absolutely any type of weird files, ISO-files, large data tables, etc. you name it.

/Daniel

4TB isn't an absolute, you can go above and beyond that, but it requires careful consideration for IOPS on the SQL database. And yes, you should be deploying multiple CDBs. I'd recommend at least 4 to 6 at a minimum to spread the content across. Sites will automatically balance as you create them and you can set a site count limit per database. And yes, you should always create a separate Web App for your MySite Host root site and the ODfB user sites.

ODfB on-prem/SharePoint Server 2019 has a maximum of a 15GB per file upload size.

Remember ODfB on-prem does not support OneDrive Backup (previously Known Folder Move).
