Is it possible to somehow get notified when a new vm image version is published/released?

In a quick search, I could not find any post about new image versions being available. Am I missing something?
I'm sorry you couldn't find what you were looking for. I did find a link that provides curated Compute >Virtual Machine updates:

The updates on this page are filtered results from the link I provided previously. You may have to adjust the filters on the Updates page to find exactly the updates you want.
Still not what I'm looking for. If I run this cmdlet Get-AzVMImage -Location $locName -PublisherName $pubName -Offer $offername -Skus $skuName I can see a list of image versions for a specific offer and sku. It would be nice to have an easy feed so I can know when a new version is released.
I apologize that the options I provided previously aren't exactly what you're looking for.
It doesn't seem that the solution you desire currently exists. I'd suggest that you provide your feedback via this link describing what you're looking for and the correct team of developers will receive the suggestion and hopefully it'll come to fruition.

Try from Azure portal :
1- Go to your Virtual Machine
2-Left side choose Alerts under "Monitoring Section"
3- Click on "+" New Alert Rule
4-Click on Add condition
5- Select signal type and filter to "Activity log "
6- Choose "create or update the virtual machine"
7- Click done
8- Click on Add action group, and configure an email notification type
9- fill alert rule name and click create
10 -go back to 3 and configure activity log signals (like OS update)

Good instructions but if I'm understanding correctly, this will only happen after a machine is updated. I want to be notified when a new version is available, before the machine is updated, so that I can manage the update.
