Hi,

We have Hyper-V with SQL Server Cluster (Active-Passive). Windows cluster is 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition & SQL Server Cluster 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition. We want to migrate both active and passive server to new Rack Server having new hardware & storage with same IP, Hostname, Same Version & Edition without Creating new Windows & SQL Server on new Rack Server.

Is this possible in Hyper-V ??

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Nikhil P Desai

    Hi,

Is this possible in Hyper-V ??

Do you mean the Hyper V VMs are Server 2008R2 with SQL server 2008R2 and you use the VMs to create the SQL Cluster, now, you want to migrate the SQL service to physical server with new hardware, storage with same IP, same version?

If my understanding is correct, I think you want to do V2P that convert virtual VM to physical server. Actually, there's no offficail method to do V2P and not recommended to do V2P. But if you want to learn about it, you may refer to the following article:

    Hey,

In my opinion, it would be better to create new virtualized cluster and migrate databases to a new cluster. The following articles might be helpful:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/relational-databases/databases/copy-databases-to-other-servers?view=sql-server-ver15
V2V is still an option. You can use StarWind V2V Converter to move your VMs to a new hardware:
