Error: Azure AD external user cant authenticate via graph

Hi we have a JS application that uses Azure AD to authenticate users, it works fine for internal user but when we add user from other tenant it does not let them authenticate and we get a 401 error . I have made sure that the Service Principal (app registration) we are using is setup as multi-tenant, the SP has permission to read directory and user data.

Any help would be greatly appreciated , we have google extensively and cant seem to find a comprehensive answer.
