Cannot open a terminal in compute instances

I am trying to complete the learning exercises in the Microsoft Learning module "Explore and analyze data with Python" with a trial subscription to Azure. In any compute instances that I start, I cannot connect to the terminal and get the error "Invalid terminal: Unable connect to terminal, please close the tab and restart your current compute and retry Trace ID : 5b4a5ee5-c5cf-4f66-b054-71a81417bdbc ". I have tried restarting the instance, in addition to deleting the VM and starting a new instance but still encounter the same error which happens in both Edge and Chrome browsers. Is there something that I am missing in connecting to the terminal in these notebooks?

I'm facing this issue as well with a standard DS11-V2. I tried another ML workspace in a different region with a DS3_V2 but the same issue persists.

I had the same issue, and it was because I was connecting through a VPN on my company laptop. There must have been something on the VPN or domain that was blocking the terminal connection (and also the Python kernel). I did not have the issue when connecting with my personal computer.

Thank you. I tried it on my personal computer and that resolved the issue. However note that I wasn't connected to VPN but the Cisco client was installed on the Laptop.

Hi there, I am having this issue as well.
I created the compute instance (Standard_DS11_v2 (2 cores, 14 GB RAM, 28 GB disk)) as per instructions from mslearn documentation.

The compute instance starts fine and says its running. I then navigate to Notebooks, and click the "Terminal" button to clone the dp100 github examples. Almost immediately, the error appears.

I restarted the compute instance and tried to connect to the terminal again but the same error appears. I clicked the "Terminal" link on the compute "Resource properties" screen and the same error appeared.

I'm connecting from a home computer. I haven't had any other problems. I've been able to create Compute clusters and Inference clusters and create basic pipelines in the designer.

@Geoffrey Moxley Thanks for the question. Can you please add more details about the VM(type, size) that you are trying. We are able to create the terminal without any error.

I'm having the same issue. I've started & stopped my compute instance several times as well as created a new compute instance from scratch.

I have the same issue, and tried to stop/start compute or create others compute instances, resulting in the same issue, to no avail. Tried different VM size (including STANDARD_DS3_V2), East US region. Any suggestion/advices to fix the problem/issue? Thanks.
