Windows Server 2008 R2 Installer Issue

Have been having trouble installing 2 different applications on this server recently and I wanted to know if it could be a pattern.

Installed ESET File Security - Had to reboot the system a couple of times before it allowed me to install the latest updates for it.
iDrive - Ran the updates on this system and now the applications freezes and will not load. I am currently working with iDrive Support and have rebooted, performed clean uninstalls and reinstalls with no success.

Also to note this PC has never had any updates installed since the user never purchased a legal copy of windows.

Any suggestions on what could be going on or troubleshooting next steps?
