.NET 4.8 in WSUS for servers

I'm currently perplexed that .NET 4.8 is not available as an update for Windows Servers later than 2012 R2 (4486105) through WSUS. Currently, with the way I have my WSUS configured, I only have updates for Windows 10, and not for any of the server OS's.

KB4486129 is only showing up for Windows 10 1703 and not Windows Server 2016. It's either not tagged correctly to allow it to apply to Windows Server 2016 or something is wrong with WSUS ability to import those updates.

KB4486153 also only shows up for Windows 10 1709 to 1809.
I'm assuming it comes native on later versions of Windows 10 because those don't show up either.

I see KB4486153 for Windows 10 1809 and Windows Server 2019, which lists itself as available for Windows 10 LTSB and Windows Server 2019, but when I try to import it, I get an error 80131509. This seems related to:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/88238/is-there-a-general-problem-with-wsus-servers-that-1.html

I'm guessing it hasn't been fixed for direct import, but it's still frustrating that updates to .NET 4.8 aren't available.

    I found this https://sw-euc.com/2020/08/27/you-need-to-lower-the-tls-security-to-manually-import-updates-in-wsus/
which solved my import problem, and make sure to undo this and redo this each time I need to import an update MS fails to allow to import into WSUS.

Any time frame on an actual solution rather than a workaround?

    Hi lucidgreen,

Thanks for your posting on this forum.

In order to avoid misunderstanding, I would like to summarize the current problems in this thread first.

    1. You want to install .net framework 4.8 updates for the client. Right? Did all the clients upgrade to the .net framework 4.8 or not? In addition, what are the windows version? Please consider to list all the windows version which you want to install the .net framework 4.8 updates.(For example windows2012/ 2012R2 /2016 and so on)
    2. You could not import updates manually on the WSUS console.

Here are my comments of the above:

    1. We have to upgrade to the .net framework 4.8 if you want to install the .net 4.8 hotfixes. Please check the .net framework version on the registry as the below path:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full
Here is reference picture of my environment:

    2. What is the error code when failed to import updates manually? Please provide a screenshot for reference. Did this issue be resolved after following this link?

Thanks for your time. Please keep us in touch if you have any questions of this case.

    Regards,
    Rita
