Unable to exclude files from snapshot: Shadow Copy Optimization Writer timed out (see Windows event log for more info).

Question

Hi. After backup my server by Veeam, i got warning:

23.03.2021 1:32:25 :: Unable to exclude files from snapshot: Shadow Copy Optimization Writer timed out (see Windows event log for more info).

vssadmin list writers:

FSRM Writer
Last error: Inconsistent shadow copy

After restarting the service, the error passed, but after the next backup I get this error again.

I tried these commands:

DISKSHADOW> set verbose on

DISKSHADOW> set context volatile

DISKSHADOW> add volume F:

DISKSHADOW> begin backup

DISKSHADOW> create

The error passed, but then appeared again.

Veeam support said I need Microsoft help

Hi,

Thanks for posting on the forum, according to your description, it seems there's some issue with the FSRM writer.

If possible, we may try to re-install the FSRM role, check if it could work.

If it still not work, or you are unable to un-install FSRM role, we'd try to collect the deep trace log for the FSRM writer, however, due to forum limitation, we are unable to collect the trace log, it's recommended to open a case with MS for further troublehsooting.
