If I turn on the Security Standard free service, will it give me a summary of what the costs would have been for that month?
So I can estimate my costs.

    @AnitaBamford-8920

    Thank you for the clarification.

    Question:

    When using the 30 day free trial of Azure Security Center - Standard. Will you be able to see the consumption costs of how much you would've spent during that month.

    • I tested this out in my subscription and found that the only way to see/forecast the consumption is by using the Pricing calculator or going to the Cost Management + Billing overview page.

    • Security Center's - Pricing & Settings tab, does make it easy to see the resources you have and what you will be charged, if you choose to enable the Standard plan for that specific resource. You can use this in conjunction with the pricing calculator to get a better idea of your costs.

    As stated previously, within Azure, you can expect to pay for what you use. However, you can use the cost and billing center, pricing calculator, or pricing & settings page to give you a better estimate of your monthly consumption. Lastly, when I enabled Security Center's Standard feature my "forecasted" charges remained the same, as seen in my screenshot above.

    Azure Security Center is a cloud solution that helps prevent, detect and respond to security threats that affect the resources and workloads on hybrid environments. It is offered in two different tiers:

    • The free tier provides security policy, continuous security assessment, and actionable security recommendations to help you protect your Azure resources.
    • The Standard tier extends the capabilities of the free tier to workloads running in private and other public clouds, providing unified security management and threat protection across your hybrid cloud workloads. The standard tier also adds threat protection capabilities, which use built-in behavioral analytics and machine learning to identify attacks and zero-day exploits, access and application controls to reduce exposure to network attacks and malware, and more. In addition, standard tier adds vulnerability scanning for your virtual machines.

    You can use Azure Cost Management and Billing (a different solution from Azure Security Center) features to conduct billing administrative tasks and manage billing access to costs. You can also use its features to monitor and control Azure spending and to optimize Azure resource use.

    @Anita Bamford

    When it comes to the Azure Security Center, the Free Tier, is enabled on all your Azure subscriptions when you visit the Azure Security Center dashboard in the Portal for the first time or enable via an API. For your question:

    • Within Azure, you can expect to pay for what you use. Therefore, the best way to estimate costs is by using the Pricing Calculator. Within this calculator you can add your current/projected resources to gain a better understanding of your costs.
    • With the Pricing Details for the Free tier of Azure Security Center, you can see what features are supported and what the costs per hour/day/transaction would be.
    • As stated in this thread, you can also leverage Azure Cost Management and Billing to prevent unexpected charges.

    Please let me know if this helps with your issue.

    Thanks for the replys. I still am not sure it answers my question. I will state it a different way

    When I do the free 30 day trial for Azure Security Center Standard, will it give me the consumption costs so I will see how much it would have cost me that month? I understand it can vary month to month but it could give me a ball park. Thanks!
