Azure Site Recovery - networking design

I have some doubts about the networking design of an Azure Site Recovery scenario.

These are the relevant info:

  • We need to replicate 10 VMWare VMs to Azure
  • I choose (but I am available to revalue this choice) to use different ip address range for On-prem and Azure subnets.

When a failover event happens, I need to route the user traffic to the Azure DR VMs over the Site To Site VPN. So I need updating DNS server, to point to the new IP addresses. I can carry out this reconfiguration manually, or configure the Recovery Plan to use scripts hosted in Azure Automation accounts that reconfigure your DNS servers.

I ask for support on these two points:

  • what are the manual reconfigurations to do on VMs: it sufficient to change the Host Record on the DNS Server? Other action are required?
  • How can script these reconfiguration on an Azure Automation Account (or Azure Runbook)
  • Use an Azure Traffic Manager can facilitate the user experience during a fail over?

Thank you

Azure Site Recovery service is yet to be migrated to Q&A. Please post your question directly on the MSDN forum for the service (Microsoft Azure Site Recovery forum)

We are actively working to onboard all services. We will make a public announcement once complete.
Thank you for your patience as we evolve the Q&A platform

It's as good that you setup networking for newly created VMs and how you would like to setup you need to decided

However, I would like to provide some insight on your query. If you have used ASR to fail-over machine and now you want to setup networking to connect to those VM's in this case you chose an option which is convenient to you.
