I’m trying to connect to my Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop pc (recently upgraded from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro) from our new Samsung Series 8 UHD smart tv using remote desktop over our Netgear DSL modem/WiFi router, mostly so I can view stored photos and other media. I’ve been unable so far to connect using my Windows 10 username and password (which is also my Microsoft account password), but I have been able to connect using a new local user account I set up on the computer based on this post: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking/remote-desktop-password-incorrect-windows-10/0720c735-196e-4550-9704-41d17b3551b3. The connection seems extremely slow, though. It reminds me of when I tried using my work computer remotely years ago via a 14.4 kbps dialup modem. It also seems to require logging directly into the computer beforehand on the new user account and it doesn’t give me access to the directories and files I want on the computer without making a bunch of changes in permissions I’d just as soon not bother with if I don’t have to.
A few more notes:
• I have tried logging into the computer from the tv using my email (which is shown as my “alias” in Windows Settings) instead of my user name and my PIN instead of my password. No go.
• I have tried entering all or part of the computer profile that shows up in the tv remote desktop settings, followed by \, ahead of my username. No luck there either.
• Whenever I try to access the computer via remote desktop on the tv, I first get an error message saying there is no certificate (or something to that effect) for the computer. I always click “Connect Anyway”
• Unless I’m connecting to the alternate local user account I set up (as described above), I always get another error message saying the username or password is incorrect.
I would appreciate it very much if someone could tell me:
- how I can log into my regular Windows user account on my computer from our tv, and
- how to speed up the connection between the tv and computer so it’s actually useable.
- Is it easier to cast from the computer to the tv than it is to access content on the computer from the tv?
