Working thru Identifying why a Win10 System reverted to a prior restore point

Question

I have a client workstation that has twice in 30 days removed an upgraded application as part of a system restore.

I can go into System Restore and list the restore points available, and what applications will be affected if I roll back to one, but am not sure how I identify why Windows 10 20H1 has suddenly initiated the process to roll back to a point in time.

The users SW vendor feels its a windows Issue, whereas it seems from the timing that each time an upgrade of their app is installed, the device rolls back to N-1 in the available restore points. Example
12July21 = Restore Point 4
10July21 = Restore Point 3
28Jun21 = Restore Point 2
5Jun21 = Restore Point 1

When the SW vendor installed an update on July 12, 2 days later the system rolled back to 18Jun21

Where do I find what triggered a system restore?

Hi,
Unless you set related tasks, as far as I know, Windows 10 will not automatically trigger system restore.
If the application is a third-party software, I suggest you check with the SW vendor again.
You can also uninstall the app to see if the same problem occurs, if not, then I think it should be the problem of the app.

HI jenny, you might want to check that as fact, Windows versions have been able to initiate a return to a restore point - an example is when a update has an issue and the system returns to the state pre install.

When I look at the list a changes that would be reversed there are a large number of MSFT items in the list that would also be rolled back, and the installs of the 3rd party app isn't always in the list of things that would be changed.
