Update from older Office version specified in XML config setup file?

Hello all – We have several systems where we need to install Office 365 via the XML config file. A small number of them are Win 7 and most Win 10. (Yes, I know…I know…. Please don’t lecture about Win 7 as you could drive a bus through it security wise. They are less than 1% of all systems at our company. There is an active plan for their retirement.)

Question: With the Win 7 systems, Office 365 can only be installed up to version 2002. It won’t install or update to anything higher. In the config XML file, we will set to install ver 2002, the channel to monthly enterprise and set ‘Update Enabled=TRUE’ in the config file. If we sent out this office install ( set to version 2002) to Win 10 systems, will the Win 10 systems update to the latest Office release eventually? I’m trying to cover both OS scenarios in one shot.

    Hi @net1994 ,
Your scenarios for installing Office for 2 different Windows versions and specific version number is correct, and you can update Windows 10 to the latest updates for Office 365 after deploying. The method how to install the latest updates for Office 365, it's depending on how do you configure the Office updates.

In addition, in my opinion, you don't need to specific the Office 365 version number, version 2002 is the last version of Microsoft 365 Apps that you can install on devices running Windows 7. So when you deploy Office 365 in Windows 7, it will deploy the latest updates for Office 365 in Windows 7 and the different last updates for Windows 10. You can try to test for 2 PCs with different Windows systems.

    Hope the information is helpful.
