Hi, I have looked extensively for an answer, and while there are related issues posted and solved here, none of the existing answers fixed my problem.

On my Windows 10 21H1 19043.1052 machine, updates have consistently failed since KB5004237. Windows Update still installs component updates like KB2993939, but Windows update packages all fail.

I have tried the following to no avail, none of these produced any change or interesting error message:

  • dism /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
  • dism /online /Cleanup-Image /SPSuperseded
  • dism /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase
  • dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore
  • sfc /scannow

Windows update installation fails regardless of whether I use the settings dialog, wusa update.msu /log, or dism /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:update.cab

CBS.log consistently gives messages like:

It seems this is related to the Intel Rapid Storage driver (to which iastorav.inf belongs), which I uninstalled at some point before updates began to fail.

I tried reinstalling different versions of the driver, but the error persists.

I don't know which update package is referred to in
Failed to pin deployment while resolving Update: Microsoft-Windows-Client-Desktop-Required-Package0110~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.19041.1052.938DBDF3E289C155EA38EF17AEB3EDFFCDA5CC55037BDA512A528F1FA9CF084C

Is there any way to fix this situation without a repair install of Windows, which is currently not an option?

    Hi @Mario

Do you mind provide make and model of your pc? List of components if self assembled.

    I'm sorry @Mario
Your pc is ten years old and Dell gives no support to Windows 10 at all:

I suppose you can't execute Windows 10 anymore or maybe some component is faulty.
