Hi!
I have an Exchange 2013 (CU23 up to date, two servers in DAG) running in my company.
SERVER01 is working fine and applying retention policies correctly to its active mounted databases.
However, SERVER02 is not applying retenion policies to its active mounted databases. The strange thing is that when I switch-over SERVER02's databases to SERVER01, retention policies start to work. So, the issue is in SERVER02 but I don't know what may be the reason or how to find the problem. What do you suggest?
Another strange behaviour, when I restart SERVER02, the retention policies works fine for a couple of days, and then start to fail again.
Is the Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Assistants service running on that server?
What does:
get-servercomponentstate SERVER02
show? all active?
Any errors in the event logs?
Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Assistants service is running ok.
get-servercomponentstate SERVER02 shows all active.
I couldn't find any error in eventviewer related to this issue.
If you run it manually while the DBs on are server2, does it work?

If you create a new database and moved a few mailboxes over to it ( after it replicates to both servers), does it work?

Start-ManagedFolderAssistant -Identity <MailboxIdentity> does not solve the problem.
By "fail again" I meant that retention policies are not applied.
If I restart SERVER02 then retention policies are applied correctly but just for a couple of days. As a workaround I have to switchover DBs to SERVER01 and then restart SERVER02 again. This may me think that may not be a database error.
I'd still move a few test users to a new DB and see.

Yes, I moved some users to new databases and the behavior is the same.
Also, I noticed that SERVER01 started a few days ago with the same behavior, retention policies are not being applied. I don't know what else to try.

Could you remove the copies and test for the single servers?
Or remove the copies and add them again.
In addition, do you mean the retention policies can not be assigned to user like this:
Select one > save > and then re-open the mailbox feature page, it's still blank?
What about creating another retention policy?

Perhaps I explained the problem in a confusing way.
The retention policies can be applied without any problem. Our retention policies are configured so that emails older than 30 days are moved to the archive mailbox. That is what is not happening, the emails are not moving to the archive mailbox.

Thank you for sharing these, that makes the issue more clearer.
Here are some questions about the Retention poilcy&tag side:
What is the type of the tag? Is it personal?
Could you see this retention policy from the Outlook client or OWA? Can you manually assign the personal tags to personal folders?
If nothing shown on the right-click menu list, please manually run
Start-ManagedFolderAssistant UserAlias
Or if you mean the tags were assigned to the folders correctly but not working, please check the document about MFA:
