Hi all hope you're well

I've been having a problem with an ad user account that I've been trying to migrate the mailbox to office365 exch online the guids are messed up and I've tried everything to get round it stamping guid ect

I'm down to exporting the mail via a pst and improting to a new account

I want to keep the old account just incase so what I've thought of doing is renaming the old account - creating a new one with the old username and importing the files and pst into it.

Would renaming the old account allow me to create a new one in ad and exchange with the same name?

    @Nicholas Head

    You cannot let two Exchange mailboxes using the same email address. If you want to use the email address for a new mailbox, you need to remove or disable the old mailbox, after that, you could use that old email address for a new Exchange mailbox.
