Unexpected Charges / Help me understand my Free Trial charges

I have a question about free trial charges. Can someone help me to understand ?

I created a VM like this:
Standard B1s (1 vcpus, 1 GiB memory)
Standard SSD LRS

Then Microsoft billed BRL 46,28 (USD 9.37) for a month.

That VM and attached SSD are not included in free plan (750 hours B1S Standard tier + 64 GB x 2 P6 solid state drives (SSD)) ?

Best Regards,

    Hello @Amauri Rodrigues ,

While we can't answer billing questions here we can provide resources that will help you better understand what different charges may be. You can speak with billing directly if you want, however, by going to the portal:

In the Azure portal, you can open a billing support request by going to Help + support > New support request > Billing and then complete the wizard.

When trying to understand costs, there are 2 tools I typically rely on. The first is the Azure Pricing Calculator:
    https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/calculator/

This gives you an estimate of what charges will be before you create your resource in Azure.

The second tool is Cost analysis which you can find under Cost Management for your resource group in the portal (or "View Cost" on a resource):
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cost-management-billing/costs/quick-acm-cost-analysis

This is a great way to check your daily costs with a full breakdown of what you are being charged for (including network and storage costs).

As far as the Azure free account, you can find the details of what is covered here:
    https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/free/

You will have 30 days to use your $200 Azure credit in addition to 12 months of popular services for free (including 750 hours of Linux B1 burstable virtual machines) but be sure to check the offer page for the current terms.

    Hello Kobulloc,

    Thank you for you message.

I already open a billing support at August, 1, 2021, partially answered in August,2. Then I requested better explanation and I am waiting. Support request ID 2108010040000471.

And I checked in Azure Pricing Calculator and Cost analysis.

My question is about the cost of this SSD unit:
'Standard SSD LRS', attached to 'Standard B1s (1 vcpus, 1 GiB memory)' VM.

I think that VM and attached SSD would be included in free plan (750 hours B1S Standard tier + 64 GB x 2 P6 solid state drives).

But Microsoft is charging that SSD.

    Best Regards,

    Hello @Anonymous ,

That amount was charged from my credit card.

Mr. Carson Hiltbrand sent a message in Set,16, with some suggestions, so I did not post a new ticket.

    Message from Mr. Carson:

After looking into your account; I have noticed that you have two disks that are the source of your charges. One is an S10 Disk and the other is an S4 disk. These are the source of your charges. The two managed SSD disks that are provided for free in your first 12 months of service are P6 solid state drives (SSD). After you have confirmed that you have changed the discs to be those two I will credit the charges they generated as you did not understand the billing model for the services provided for free under the first 12 months of usage.

    Message to Mr. Carson:

    Hello Carson,

    [...]

I have tried to resize that SSD to P6. Unfortunatelly it is not possible, as you can see in the snapshot "Change to P6.png".

"Failed to update disk ... Reducing disk/snapshot size is not supported in Azure to prevent data loss."

Then I tried to create a snapshot and create a new P6 SSD. Same error.

Finally I create a new B1S VM. The wizard did not allow me to select P6 - it automatically create P10. Then I droped that new VM and P10 SSD.

I did not understand: It is not possible create a B1S VM with P6 SSD ?

Also, as you can see in "Disks.png" and "MontanaSystemVM2_OsDisk_1.png" I have only one E10 'disk'.

Can You clarify this, please, and guide me to create one B1S VM with P6 SSD ?

    Thanks for your help Kobulloc.

    Best Regards,

    Amauri Rodrigues

lol it's awfully fun what's possible in Azure but yes be mindful about everything you do else you credit card could get maxed out inadvertently! Also, be mindful over 'security centre' and 'logging' too as these caught me out!

If Microsoft are still monitoring this post, does the 64GB P6 (premium ssd) apply if you are not using the b1s series VM? I am trying to use b1s but I'm finding it a challenge, it pops its clogs if you try to use it for anything other than notepad (after installing the GUI bits).

    Thanks Microsoft for making Azure!

    Robert

I looked at my charges for the past month, I was under the impression I has a 12 month free trial, but I do understand some services are still going to cost.

Well I looked at my charges and more than 60% of my total bill was from my NAT, which I click on the resource and is non-functional at the moment anyway. Several other charges for IP's I set up just because I was messing around and learning more about the program. I'm nervous to move forward with anything and incur additional charges that could end up being exhorbitant. I would appreciate a live agent who could walk me through what is free, what is not, and how to avoid charges for services that I'm not currently using but have on my account.

    Thanks
