Is it possible, that in some problematic cases with Intune communication, policies, applying things etc. the manual sync would bring more benefit than just restarting the machine? Sure, when restart is done, usually the time stamp of sync status will change/update, but is that enough?

@Pavel yannara Mirochnitchenko In fact, it's not really possible to tell which method is better. Manually sync device and restart device both can make the device check in. Generally, we will sync the device manually to get the policy update or change.

I'd like to share one of my previous experiments with you. I try to install a win32 app via intune, but it isn't installed in my device after waiting for a log time. Then I try to sync the device, nothing happened. However, when I restart the device, the app is installed successfully. The Restart Device is to restart the IME. Win32 app deployment needs IME.

Please understand that this example doesn't mean that Restart is better than Sync. I think both OK.

Just had a real life exampe with powershell script deployment.

    1. Deploy script to devices.
    2. Reboot
    3. Look into intune for deployment status, nothing
    4. Reboot again
    5. Look again for status, nothing
    6. Manual sync
    7. Look for status, green!

Manual sync does the same job as the administrative synch from the MEM console. A reboot will force a sync outside the scheduled sync. In case of PS scripts, a manual sync doesn't run the scripts immediately. However if you restart the IME or reboot the device then any new scripts or updated scripts should execute straight away. The Intune management extension agent checks with Intune once every hour and after every reboot for any new scripts or changes.
