RDS 2019 - App Crash or unresponsive for some seconds if another user logs in.

Hello,

we have 10 Windows Sever 2019 RD Servers. If a new users logs in to the Server, sometimes the Apps of other users crashs or get unresponsive for some seconds.
It doesn't matter if the new users connect via RDP or Citrix ICA. It's always a published full desktop.

Servers are up to date. And this can't be simulated, because it does not happen every time.

In the event logs, I can only see the AppCrash and some seconds before the new user login.

Any ideas where to search?

    Hello,

    Thanks for reaching out.
I believe it could be issue with the Application itself.

I would suggest you to un public app then reboot RDS server if its possible. Then publish the App again.

Also, suggest you to check with other published app like Notepad.exe or Calc.exe if these app crashes or not with different users logged in.

Other note Please check in your Antivirus program if this App and its installation location is whitelisted.

Hope this helps in your case.

    Thank you.

Hello and thank you for your answer.

It's not only "one" App. There are different Apps which are crashing, like Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Chome and so on.
These Apps are not published, they are installed on a Windows Server 2019 and are accessed directly from published desktop.

    Regards.
    D.O.

    Hello @DO

Could you verify that when you published the applications you run the Change User commands:

Install mode, for example by running :

    change user /install

before running the installation, and then :

    change user /execute

    (as described here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2008-R2-and-2008/cc742815(v=ws.11)?redirectedfrom=MSDN)

this also may happen when User Profile Service manages some registry handles in the server, could you try as a troubleshooting step to disable User Profile Service in the RDS Server: Start-->run-->services.msc.> User Profile Service, Right click, and Disable.

Hope this helps narrowing down the issue,
    Best regards,
