Azure Analysis Services - On Premise Data

Hi there,

I have an organization that has a number of MS SQL Servers (different entities spread accross regions / country). Some of these are on on-premise, some are hosted in Azure. The structure of the data is basically the same but they have ambitions to bring their data into one central location to be able to perform analysis across their organization.

I have not used Azure Analysis Services (AAS) before but have used MS PowerBI and the on-premise gateway for accessing the data from a 1:1 point of view. The idea is that if I was to use AAS that the data could be digested from the organizations data sources both on-prem and cloud based and then stored accordingly in Azure.

I understand there are some need-to-knows e.g. region requirements etc. But in general - would this approach be feasible, or would there be another approach that would be recommended?

Once the data has gone through the ETL process, the client is then wanting to roll-out reports and dashboards using MSPBI.

Cheers!

    Hello anonymous user,
Thanks for the ask and using Microsoft Q&A platform .
I think the architecture which you are refering is going to work .
But I want to ask you as why you are using AAS , since you are anyways going to use PwBI , you can push all the data in powerBI and create transformation on the PwBI and it should work out .

Please do let me know how it goes .
    Thanks
    Himanshu
