I am trying to edit the display name of an existing distribution list and getting "Provisioning Layer Initialization failed: Domain controller is overloaded" Error.

Thanks for the response, I tried to change it using ECP and We are using exchange server 2013.
And this issue is no longer exists and resolved itself.
But I would love to understand about it more in-depth.

Glad to hear it's fixed.
Generally speaking, this issue is more related with Active Directory. It may be caused by the network or CPU high usage. You could check the proformence monitor and see if you can find something special.
Have you changed something of the AD recently? It's also weird for me:(

Where did you change this? ECP or the outlook client?
And what's the version of your Exchange server? Did you get other errors?
It's not like a normal Exchange error message, I gonna do some research about it.
