I have a group policy that it pushing out printers to users based on their location (by OU). Some users are getting the policy applied but they are not getting the printers and I am seeing event ID 7016 with error 283 in the Group Policy logs.

End users are on Windows 10 computers. The print server is Server 2016, and the printers are managed through Papercut.

Has anyone seen anything like this before. or does anyone have any idea what that event id and error combo mean?

    Hello Damon,

This is due to recent updates to protect from the PrintNightmare exploit. Only users with Admin rights would be able to see the printer because the would have access to the drivers. One workaround is to install manually the printer drivers locally, and this will allow any users on the computer to map the device. Otherwise Microsoft released an article regarding the printer and printer driver management post patching:

    Hope it helps,

Just thought of one more detail that may be relevant to this issue.

The users that have the policy applied successfully have administrator permissions on their computer.

Users that do not have admin permissions on their machine do not see the printers and a gpresult -h points to a 7016 event at the same time as the policy push.
