Is it mandatory to enable HMA for Skype for business if we are enabling for Exchange on-prem

Environment : Exchange on-prem 2016 and Skype for business 2015 , Exchange UM enabled with skype for business (Enterprise Voice),
Requirement : Enable conditional access policies via Intune for mobile device . Hence need to enable HMA on the premise environment

For exchange we are clear that we need to enable the Hybrid setup with M365 tenant and sync identities using AAD connect & also authenticate using pass through, password hash sync .
FOr skype for business ,do we really need to make changes so as the functionality doesnt break as SFB heavily relies on the Exchange web services with NTM authentication.
Can anyone confirm on this or share the experiences .
