Hello
I am trying to change the name of a shared mailbox but am getting an error message.
We use Microsoft 365 Business. We have two Domain Controllers in our office and we use Azure AD Connect to synchronise password changes, new user accounts, deleted user accounts etc with Microsoft 365. Microsoft 365 hosts our email.
We had a member of staff who left (Joe Bloggs). His AD user account properties > Attribute Editor > proxyAddresses field has the following entries:
SMTP:projectname@ourdomain.org
smtp:joe.bloggs@ourdomain.org
He never used joe.bloggs@ourdomain.org, and always used projectname@ourdomain.org. He was a volunteer and worked solely on this project. However, because of the way the account is set up with the proxyAddresses field, his name always appeared as the From: field in emails he sent next to the projectname address. This was not a problem while he volunteered with us.
When he left I converted his projectname@ourdomain.org to a shared mailbox. I have given other user accounts access to this shared mailbox. However, I need to change the name that appears from 'Joe Bloggs' to 'Project Name Team'.
If I log on to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Groups > Shared Mailboxes I can see the shared mailbox listed as
Joe Bloggs ------------- projectname@ourdomain.com
If I try to rename the email account from Joe Bloggs to Project Name Team I receive an error:

An Azure Active Directory call was made to keep the object in sync between Azure Active Directory and Exchange Online. However, it failed. Detailed error message: Unable to update the specified properties for on-premises mastered Directory Sync objects or objects currently undergoing migration. The issue may be transient and please retry a couple of minutes later. If issue persists, please see exception members for more information.

My problem is that I am unsure of how to proceed.
Can anyone help me rename this shared mailbox, please?
Thank you.
