SharePoint items are locked by user who edited document

Hi! we have SharePoint 2016 and using it together with Office 365.
Currently if we have for example word document, then after editing it in Word (not in browser), then the item in SP gets locked by the user who edited the document and can't edit any metadata in SP.
At the same moment if document is opened in word again, user can edit it and also edit metadata from Word under File/Info but again when opening in SP and editing metadata, it's locked by the user.
We did a lot of investigation and only thing what is helping is to disable Azure Information protection add-in, but this is not an good option in our company.
Does anyone met such an issue and knows how to solve it without disabling this add-in?

We have a case opened in MS, but it's two or three weeks already without any luck.

    Hi @Maris , this seems to be caused by AIP usage rights. Have you looked into changing the permissions for your users? This utilizes AIP and if set up will allow your users to access the documents. Please let me know if this works or if you have any questions!
