[UWP]Enable Automatic Updates Sideloaded apps

Hi,

I have a LOB sideloaded application running on about 40 tablets - that's about to double. I recently found out about the new feature that allows automatic updates for sideloaded apps.

I created a simple app and set it to look at a local directory to apply updates as a POC. It works great on my machine. I sent it to a colleague to test the process on his machine and it didn't work.

I then tried to install it on a tablet with the same process and it also did not work and there was nothing in the event log to explain why.

All three computers have the same version of Windows 10 - 1909 build 18363.959. There was nothing in the event log about any problems.

The only difference I can determine is that my machine is a development machine so it has other tools installed - visual studio and such.

Could there be something missing on the other machines that would cause this problem?

I have a question here. Can the other devices access the installation URL without error where you are going to deploy the.appinstaller file?

@Roy Li - MSFT Ultimately, the software update folder would be on a network drive that all the tablets would have access to. I wanted to make sure it worked and I understood how to set it up before getting the network admin involved. My proof of concept was to use a local directory on the C drive of the machine as the install directory.

So when you are testing, the installer file is stored in the C drive of a device, right? Can these testing devices access to the device that stored the installer file correctly?

@Roy Li - MSFT For the test it is stored on the actual machine doing the test. So laptop A has the install directory on its C drive, tablet B has the install directory on its C drive...etc. We've tried it on 4 devices and it works on 1 of them...my machine which is a developer machine.

Could you please share the template URL that you are using for testing? If you are following a specific document, could you please share the link as well?
