Connecting to Win11 share using Microsoft ID

I am attempting to connect to a Win11 laptop from another on the same, private network.

File and printer sharing are on.

When I set up this new laptop, I decided to use my Microsoft ID instead of a local account. Now I cannot connect to shared folders using that account.

When I am prompted for network credentials on the other laptop, I enter the machine name\account and password, but this does not work. For example, when I connect to the share, it asks me to provide credentials, and I enter DELL-LAPTOP\dave and my password. I have verified this is the account on my new laptop by running, "NET USER dave" at the command prompt, or just looking at the Manage server application.

Is there a trick to getting this to work? Local accounts used to work just fine.

    Hi there,

Try disabling PIN login for the Microsoft Account (Settings > Accounts > Sign in options > PIN).
This has worked for most of the users.

You can try to disable the password protection feature to fix the Windows 11 network sharing not working problem. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings. Scroll down to find the “Password protected sharing” option, and click Turn off password protected sharing.
