Hi,

We are a small-medium business organization with 1500+ users. We monitor around 70 servers and 3 storage units (NetApp). We have a standalone SCOM 1807 server (We thought it was the latest version at the time...). The operating system is server 2016.
We want to upgrade both the system center and the operating system to 2019. I know there is a manual to upgrade SCOM but the question is can you do an in place upgrade to the server as well.
We also have a DMZ gateway server with 2012 r2 operating system which will also need to be upgraded. Can in place upgrade also apply there?

Thanks in advance, Rahamim.

    Hi @Rahamim Levi ,

You can do an in-place upgrade from Windows Server 2016 to Windows Server 2019, this is pretty straightforward, however Microsoft always recommends a clean install. If you ask me then performing one (1) in-place upgrade is "OK", performing more than one might higher the risk of corruption or unexpected behaviour.

For your Gateway servers I would definitely recommend a clean install, because this would involve too many in-place upgrades which may cause unexpected behaviour, and the Gateway server installation is quite a small thing to do in the end.
