Merged snapshot and now unable to turn VM

Hi all
Merged some VM snapshots today and all seems to gone ok from merge point of view - no errors
Once merge completed, i deleted the checkpoint subtree.
Upon turning on the VM, it was failing, unable to locate file...seems like its still pointing to the avhd file when i do inspect disks.
Have i missed a step? Just to note we are using Altaro backup as well so not sure if that has anything to do with this?
