When I do the following in Hyper-V (on Win11), the wifi connection is disconnected and after the next reboot, the wifi settings screen is not visible.
This symptom is reproducible, at least in my environment.

Edition Windows : 11 Pro
Version : 21H2
Installation date : 2021/11/11
OS Build : 22000.376
Experience : Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.376.0

Hyper-V manager version: 10.0.22000.1

Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160MHz
Provider: Intel
Date: 2020/02/05
Version: 21.80.2.1
Digital signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher

Hardwear ID: ven_8086&dev_2723

Step 1. Click Virtual Switch Manager.
Step 2. Click New Virtual Network Switch.
Step 3. Select External and click Create Virtual Switch.
Step 4. Select Connection Type > External Network > "Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160MHz".
Step 5. Check "Allow management operating system to share adapters for this network".
Step 6. Click Apply.

↓ error message
An error occurred while applying changes to the properties of the virtual switch.

An error occurred while changing the connection settings of the virtual Ethernet switch.
Failed to disconnect the Ethernet switch port. (switch name = "xxxx", port name = "yyyy"): Wrong parameter. (0x80070057)

Failed to bind Ethernet port '{yyyy}': element not found. (0x80070490)

To solve the wifi connection problem.
Uninstall the driver "Intel" from Device Manager, and then reboot.

I would like to know how to create a virtual network switch (external) with wifi on this machine.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

note:
I am using Win11 in a Japanese environment, and the error messages in this post were translated by me.
So the error messages may not be exactly the same as those displayed in the English environment.

(So I'm assuming this problem is due to a bug in Windows 11.) Is there any way to check if the hardware on my machine meets the requirements for an external virtual switch?

    You could be right. Some things to try;

    • remove Hyper-v feature, reboot, reinstall it
    • repair install by running setup.exe from the root of the install media
    • clean install windows, patch fully, try again with hyper-v

The pc or hardware manufacturer (or their forums) will be your best resource to debug these problems.

Many consumer-grade network adapters do a poor job of hosting an external virtual switch so expect some slowness. The pc or hardware manufacturer may have some suggestions.
