MCSA retiring Jan 2021, equivalent certification?

Hello,

I am interested to work as a Database Administrator, have some experience in the administration and also as a developer. Want to fill in the gaps I have by preparing for certification and get certified. I saw that MCSA(70-461,462,463) was retiring. Those 3 exams syllabus looked like exactly what I need. Now that the certification is retiring, what is the equivalent that covers the same syllabus and a certification that a database administrator would want to have on the resume?

Thanks
Vijaya

    Hi @Vijaya Gudipati ,

Now that the certification is retiring, what is the equivalent that covers the same syllabus and a certification that a database administrator would want to have on the resume?

    Quote from this blog: mcsa-mcsd-mcse-certifications-retire-with-continued-investment

If you’re working towards a MCSA, MCSD, or MCSE certification, you’ll want to pass all required exams before they retire. The list below shows existing exams that will retire. Note that training content may continue to be available in these areas even after the exams have retired.

If you have an existing MCSA, MCSD, and MCSE certification, it will remain on your Microsoft transcript, even after the exams retire. In fact, it will remain in the active section of your transcript for two years from January 31, 2020; at that time the certification will be moved to the “inactive” section of your transcript.

If you currently hold a MCSA, MCSD, or MCSE certification, why not update your profile with one of our new role-based certifications that may be relevant to you. Check out our recommended role-based certifications:

So I recommend you pass the exam and get the certificates before they retire, and your Microsoft transcript will remain in the active section for two years from January 31, 2020. And during this period, you can get other certifications and update your profile.
And if you also have questions about certifications, post your questions here : Certification_SupportForum

    Hi,

Microsoft Certification / Exams is currently not supported in the Q&A forums, the supported products are listed over here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/products (more to be added later on).

You can ask the experts in the dedicated Microsoft Certification - Exam Availability forum over here:

    70-461, 70-462, 70-463 is for SQL 2012/2014.

You can go for 70-761, 70-762, 70-764, 70-765. These certifications were launched for SQL 2016.

Even if they get retired, your certification will be active for 2 years.

    mcsa-sql2016-database-development-certification

If you need to learn and go for Azure related certification, you can go for AZ-900 (Azure fundamentals) optional and then DP-300 (Azure DB Administration)
