Hi All,

We have a hyper-v installed and running on Windows server 2012 R2

We are looking to upgrade all 3 hyper-V's to 2016/2019. In the process of upgrade the pre requesites states that the processor should support SLAT.

I have no clue to confirm whether my processor supports SLAT or not. Here are the below things I have checked already

  1. I have downloaded core info tool and run coreinfo -v below is the output. However it shows to run this tool when hypwer-v is not installed. I have it installed and do not want to erase everything just to check the compatibility

Note: Coreinfo must be executed on a system without a hypervisor running for
accurate results.

Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2660 v3 @ 2.60GHz
Intel64 Family 6 Model 63 Stepping 2, GenuineIntel

HYPERVISOR * Hypervisor is present
VMX - Supports Intel hardware-assisted virtualization
EPT - Supports Intel extended page tables (SLAT)
URG - Supports Intel unrestricted guest

  1. I have run the intel processor identification utility. it has intel virtualization technology and ept with x mark.. however i dont belive this

however tasks manager already shows virtualization enabled

  1. I have checked in intel processor website it shows ept is compatible for my proceesor .. Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2660 v3 @ 2.60GHz .. which is strange
  2. check in bios .. no options for vtx or EPT

Simplest solution is to check the server manufacturer's web site for this info. One clue is the drivers they provide based on operating system. Another way is to ask in server manufacturer hardware forums, and checking here as well.
