Windows 10 update - how find out what is pending

Question

new to 10 (Aug 18, 2020). very old from 95 thru 8.1 ;) I pause updates until just before patch Tuesday, but how can I find out what is pending. Looks like I just have to blindly open the gate. Not good.

yep, it will check for pending updates and apply them.

I do not see the status of any updates in Windows Update unless we are referring to the status of updates which are installing. That is not helpful. Here is an example. I do not want to install the 22H2 service pack but I clicked 'Check for Updates' and as soon as it found 22H2 it started downloading it. I postponed the update for as far out as I can in the hope that I can find a way to kill the install before it begins. I have two days left before it resumes. I should be able to go into setting and deselect the update and end the story there. That is not a feature. I cannot 'see' this pending update anywhere nor do I have any control over it. I suspect I will be able to remove the update after it installs but that should not be my only option. I can also turn off Windows Updates but that is also a poor option. Ideas?

Please open the setting > update & security > windows update, you will the status of updates.

Hello,

If you go to Windows Update section in Settings app, Windows will automatically check for pending updates.

you can check what is pending via SCCM.
