Once you have deployed an ARC agent. Would Log Analytics extension agent still require proxy setup via Log Analytics gateway?

    Hi @DavidPerry-1112 ,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A! Thanks for posting the question.

I see that you have deployed Arc agent on non-Azure hosted machines (connected to Azure through proxy) and you are planning to install Log Analytics agent on it. Based on my understanding, you wanted to know if Log Analytics agent would use the same proxy configuration as set for Arc Agent. Please correct me if I missed anything.

In this regard, please note that Arc agent communication with the Azure and Log Analytics agent communication with Log Analytics workspace happen over different APIs. Arc Agents are to help you manage the machine outside of Azure, whereas the LogAnalytics agent is for monitoring and automation purpose. Also, extensions deployed by Azure Arc will not inherit the agent-specific proxy configuration. For more details: Agent-specific proxy configuration.

Therefore, if the LogAnalytics agent on your machines cannot communicate directly with LogAnalytics workspace, you would still have to use corresponding setup for proxy/Log Analytics gateway. Also, please note that Azure Arc-enabled servers doesn't support using proxy servers that require authentication, TLS (HTTPS) connections, or a Log Analytics gateway as a proxy for the Connected Machine agent.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
