Installing CU for Lync 2013 when Co-located with Skype 2015

Greetings,

We are currently in the process of moving from Lync 2013 to Teams via Skype 2015. 2013/Skype are both internal running as co-located.

We have been getting some issues from the Lyncpool which the majority of our users are currently housed on. As part of troubleshooting/resolution It was recommended that the latest CU be installed.

We followed the usual guide we have used in the past for CU updates but have run into issues. (No issues were ever experienced when just Lync 2013)

Downloading and installing the updates worked as expected, but the additional steps are where we run into issues.

Running the test-csdatabase came back with everything as expected. I have read not to run Install-CsDatabase -ConfiguredDatabases -SqlServerFqdn
<FEBE.FQDN> -Verbose if colocated with Skype, it recommends reading technet, but I am not finding anything on co-location and CU installation.

Enable-Cstopology, This failed if run from 2013, which makes sense as 2015 updated topology. So had to be run from Skype 2015 Server, It gives an error about check security for deleted objects container, This though seems to be normal.

It is when it comes to the bootstrapper that problems occur, Running on Lync front end server It run through and failed at the point of Enabling new roles, I tried with both the account I normally use for lync administration and also attempted same with a full domain admin account, still same error. This in turn caused all sorts of Lyss access errors to appear in event log. I attempted to unload and recreate local databases to no avail. Eventually I rolled back the servers to pre CU and it all returned to working order. But I need to know if there is something else that needs to be done?

Should Bootstrapper.exe located in the Skype server deployment folder be run on Lync servers. Any recommendations or advice on running Cumulative update when have both 2013 and 2015 together would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks.

    Hi!

Does this issue persist only when you install CU for Lync 2013 with collocated with Skype for Business 2015?

Does skype for Business 2015 and Lync 2013 are installed in the same machine?

To my knowledge, Bootstrapper.exe is responsible for deployment and configuration of server roles. All the operations(install CU Updates, add /remove server role, add/remove server components) with Lync Server need to run bootstrapper.exe. So Bootstrapper.exe is necessary for you when you install CU for Lync 2013.

For your scenario, we recommend you try to install CU for Lync 2013 without collocate with Skype for Business 2015 to see if this issue can be fixed. For more details about how to move Lync 2013 to Teams, you can refer to the following discussion link:
