Hello world,

my company want's to modernize the whole server management (configuration management, monitoring and event management, updates,...).
I am currently evaluating Azure Automation, Log Analytics and Azure Arc to do so.

My first impression is, that the whole solution is not very mature yet and not suitable for productive use in an enterprise environment.
We want to manage approx 500 VMs (Windows / Linux), hybrid (cloud and on-prem).
Is anyone here who can / want to share some experience in a comparable setup?

    Hi @CMBurns ,

There are lot of customer stories provided here by customers across the globe. If you are interested, you may review them. Below listed 2 customer stories are for the combination of services that you have mentioned (i.e., Azure Automation, Azure Monitor and Azure Arc)

    1. PROSEGUR boosts security, eases management of servers at scale with Azure Arc
    2. ASAPCLOUD provides modern security, compliance for on-premises infrastructure with Azure Arc

I would also mention that all the 3 Azure services i.e., Azure Automation, Azure Monitor and Azure Arc enabled servers are suitable for production use in an enterprise environment and so you are in the right place for hybrid VM management including configuration management, monitoring and event management, updates, etc. Below are few of the additional details with regards to it.

    1. Azure Automation State Configuration (Azure DSC) is an Azure configuration management service that allows you to configure and enforce state on virtual and physical machines in any cloud or on-premises datacenter. In addition to enforcing configuration, you can also use Azure Automation State Configuration (Azure DSC) in a report-only mode where compliance data is generated based on a virtual or physical machine's compliance with a configuration.
    2. Azure Monitor's Data Collection Rule (DCR) that allows you to collect events and performance counters from virtual machines using the Azure Monitor agent. The data collection rule defines data coming into Azure Monitor and specify where it should be sent.
    3. Azure Automation's Update Management (UM) that allows you to manage operating system updates for your Windows and Linux virtual machines in Azure, physical or VMs in on-premises environments, and in other cloud environments. You can quickly assess the status of available updates and manage the process of installing required updates for your machines reporting to Update Management.
