Issue with Windows Server 2012 R2 installing updates from WSUS

Hi,

I'm having an issue downloading and installing updates from WSUS. The clients and WSUS server are Server 2012 R2. I have Windows 10 clients who are installing updates from this WSUS server without known issues. The server clients are three Server 2012 R2 servers.

The KBs that won't install are as follows. These are recent updates (circa 5/11/2022).

KB5002196
KB5002184
KB5014001

Here is the applicable portion of the Windows update log from the most recent attempted pull from the client. All three servers are showing the same issue: the updates are available, but won't download or installed. This attempted pulls are happening when TS users are logged in, if that makes a difference.

    I found the following error tips in the log file:

    The BIT job failed due to that the requested resource requires user authentication. Please open the IIS Manager in the WSUS Server and enable the Anonymous Authentication in the ClientWebService. And then check whether the issue will be resolved.

    Hi Rita,

    In between posting and this morning, I also found another article describing the need for the clients to be able to authenticate to the server. I enabled read permissions on the WSUS content, and the clients were able to download the updates. So a very similar methodology to yours. Thanks for commenting and helping me confirm the problem area and fix.
